Mood Cycle is a tincture to help balance the rhythm of your cycle from maiden to crone. To hold you through the storm of hormonal fluctuations. To clear stagnation of blood and thoughts.  To relax the muscles and the mind . Its for enveloping you in a mothering embrace when you need one.

Motherwort - A member of the mint family, motherwort is a vigorous and lovely plant that is very easy to grow. With documented use dating back centuries motherwort has a special affinity for the reproductive, nervous and cardiovascular systems. From a reproductive perspective, motherwort is a uterine tonic , is antispasmodic and clears stagnation so can help support those with painful periods especially those with pain that migrates down into the legs and lower back. . It also is the perfect herb to call on for nervous system symptoms associated with hormonal fluctuations in the premenstrual phase or in perimenopause - particularly anxiety, irritability, racing thoughts, headaches and sleeplessness. Motherworts botanical name Leonurus cardiaca also hints at its use for the heart, both the emotional and the physical heart. Spiritually, motherwort cocoons you in a warm embrace like a mother when you are heartbroken or hurt, on a physical level, motherwort helps to relax the blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and reducing palpitations, especially those associated with anxiety and stress or in menopause. All the motherwort in this formula is grown by me in my little suburban Aetheria herb garden without chemicals, just compost and love! As motherwort has an emmenagogue action it is best to avoid if you have prolonged or heavy periods and is not to be used during pregnancy.

Vervain - One of the most ancient documented herbs, vervain has a reputation across much of Europe, Egypt and and the Americas as an extremely sacred plant. In fact the ancient Romans and Greeks used the herb to purify their temples, the Druids believed it allowed supernatural powers, Egyptians thought it sprang forth from the tears of Isis and and First Nations Americans used it in shamanic rituals. A spindly plant that is also extremely easy to grow, vervain has fallen from favour in more recent years which is unfortunate as it is a wonderful nerve and uterine tonic. As a relaxant for the mind and body, vervain is specific for people that feel wound up and stiff in body and attitude, people who may be very driven and don’t know when to take a break. As it helps to stabilise the response of tissues in the gut, cardiovascular and endocrine system to stress hormones, it may be of benefit in those who experience digestive upset, palpitations and hormonal fluctuations in the face of stressful situations. It is also specific for supporting those who get anxiety, low mood and cravings associated with the luteal phase. As vervain is an emmenagogue it is best to avoid in heavy or prolonged periods and is not tp be used during pregnancy

Ginger   A beautifully warming and moving herb, ginger has been used since antiquity throughout India and Asia.  It is hot in nature and helps to stimulate blood flow and open the blood vessels, allowing better delivery of the other herbs in the formula to the periphery and stimulating circulation to the uterus. It too has a strong anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic action which may be of benefit in painful periods.  As motherwort and vervain formula are cooling in action, ginger drives and balances the formula.  The ginger in this formula is grown by our Pacific neighbours in Fiji and dehydrated and processed by me to ensure a strong and potent extract.

This tincture is handmade from scratch by me and utilises motherwort and vervain grown in the Aetheria suburban herb garden . It harnesses the full solar and lunar light of a full month and is made in the old way. The old way honours the herbs and the relationships that a herbalist has with them. The daily shaking of jars, the straining, the love and thought that goes into each and every bottle. This is the way of the past and definitely the way to the lightness of the future that I want to see.
